Kunio Restaurant - Waikele, Hawaii

Tonight, I had such a great time with my BFFs at Kunio's at Waikele!  I feel totally recharged again.  We had a blast eating fabulous food, while sipping sake.  I even had a pepsi.

Kunio's is a Japanese restaurant at the Waikele Shopping Center.  It's quite popular and oftentimes, there is a line outside because it is that good.  The food is of quality and the service excellent.  The price range is in the medium ($$), but it's worth the cost.

Before the meal, you get an appetizer dish.

Miso Soup

I ordered a combination teishoku with Chicken Katsu and Miso Butterfish.  I had a major craving and now I feel totally satisfied.

The food at Kunio's truly is good and I'm totally stuffed. And if you are a picky eater, you can't go wrong with chicken katsu.  It's one of the most basic dishes ever!

My friend brought her son and let me tell you ... Kids meals at Kunio are HUGE. I wonder if I should order one next time (just kidding) because it comes with ice cream too.

I love sushi.  My friend actually ordered the sushi, but couldn't even eat it because she thought it was too spicy. It makes me laugh because when I ate it, I couldn't even taste the spice.  My taste buds must be shredded.

The teishoku (combination meals) are a deal!  There are so many combination options too.  For the price, a teishoku provides you with the most amount of food for the cost (really).

My friend ordered the soba and shrimp tempura meal.  I never order soba in a restaurant because I know I can make it at home for about $2.00, but I couldn't take my eyes off the shrimp tempura.

Okay, okay ... I don't drink, but I did tonight.  I had warm and cold sake.  I had to try it, just to try it, and I'm glad I did because it was different and not something I would ever order.  It sure is potent!

Isn't this amazing? Inside, there's a glass with sake, chilling on ice.  The cold sake is much smoother than the warm one.

For the past week or two, I've been completely stressed from work, so having dinner at Kunio's was completely refreshing and necessary.  I indulged tonight, but the money was worth the price and I can't wait to go back!

If you haven't been to Kunio Restaurant, you need to go!  It's a Japanese restaurant you'll be sure to love.

  1. Thanks Mary for dropping by my blog. Your post has made me hungry for Japanese food again! Singapore does have many interesting places and I hope that one day you will visit our tiny island and be delighted by the variety of food that we have here. :)
