Many of you may be familiar with some of the scenic areas of Makapu'u, as featured in the movie "50 First Dates," starring Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler. Do you remember the lighthouse in the movie or where they worked? The place they worked at is actually called "Sea Life Park," and it is a popular tourist attraction in Hawaii. It's basically a mini Sea World! It's a great place to see spectacular shows with seals, dolphins, penguins, and killer whales. There are also aquariums and a place where you can swim with the dolphins too. The view at Sea Life Park is incredible! It's a great place for families, especially for kids.
While Sea Life Park is a great tourist attraction, the view within the surrounding region is spectacular. There's so much to do here from hiking to swimming, snorkeling, and more!
For those who love to hike, Makapu'u is a great place. It's an easy hike if you use the concrete paved path up the mountain. However, for the more adventures, you can hike up the cliffside and make your own path! I've tried both. It's a comfortable stroll on the paved path, but when you make your own path up the mountainside the pictures are much more incredible!
I am afraid of heights, so I couldn't look back too often. I was able to capture a great photo of the surrounding region on the cliffside. One thing I've learned is to never wear shorts when hiking this route, as I went through a million thorny bushes and had to grab onto a whole bunch of rocks too!
If you aren't in the mood to hike, you can still get incredible photos by stopping at some of the scenic points at Makapu'u.
