Origin of French Toast

There's nothing like French Toast! It's one of my favorite breakfast foods.

Out of curiosity, I searched for the origins of French toast on Wikipedia and found a great article on French Toast at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_toast. Suprisingly, French Toast is not French in origin. In fact, there are a ton of countries that have "French Toast," but of course one would never know unless they tried it because it's named differently depending on the country. If you haven't tried French Toast, it's a must.

According to the article I read, in the past, French Toast was a way for people to transform stale bread into a much more appetizing dish by battering and frying it with egg and adding other toppings. Some people add milk, fruit, and/or other items to spice up the dish. In the US, French Toast normally is sweet with fruit, whipped cream, or cinnamon. However, other countries might use less sweet options too, such as meats. Suppossedly, French Toast existed and originated during medievel times.

As you can see below, my French Toast came with coconut and whipped cream. I've also had stuffed French Toast at IHOP. There are endless combinations. I love French Toast!
